Cinco de Mayo Party

Cinco de Mayo is my second favorite celebration of the year, right after my birthday. I mean it’s pretty much a day where drinking margaritas starting at noon and eating obscene amounts of guacamole is the norm, right. Wait? That’s not how you celebrate? I don’t understand :) I mean yes, it’s also about the Mexican army’s victory over the French but really for me, it’s a celebration of food. Come to think of it, everything is pretty much a celebration of food for me. Good thing I work out once in a while!

You see I’m an Arizona girl at heart – and after spending my entire youth there – it’s safe to say that we take celebrating Cinco de Mayo (or Cinco de Drinko as we used to say) pretty seriously. We would throw big outdoor Cinco de Mayo parties with endless bowls of tortilla chips, vats of guacamole, bowls of salsa, giant plates of nachos drenched in cheese, did I mention guacamole, pitchers upon pitchers of margaritas, enchiladas, oh I could go on forever. So you see why I love it. It’s pretty much all my favorite food and drink rolled up into one glorious day.

So in honor of my second favorite celebration of the year, I put together all my favorite MUST have items for a rockin’ Cinco de Mayo party (yes there are at least 3 different guacamoles that must be present at a Cinco de Mayo fiesta – did you expect anything less from me?)!! There is one more addition that I’ll post on Wednesday. It has tequila. And lots of it! I’ll leave you with that!

Charred Corn Guacamole with Cumin

Tomatillo Avocado Dip

Chipotle Guacamole

Chicken Tostadas with Cilantro Vin and Guacamole

Goat Cheese Guacamole

Cowboy Caviar

Homemade Tortilla Chips and Bean Dip

Carnitas

And there you have it! All the food that you should have at a Cinco de Mayo party!! If I missed anything – feel free to shout it out in the comments – I’ve got time to add it my Cinco de Mayo party menu! Margaritas coming soon….

Ok, I’ve never thought about goat cheese and guacamole in the same sentence, but now I can’t stop. That sounds really good. Our menu for the week is planned, but we may need to make an unscheduled stop :) .

Now if I had all of these in my fridge right now I would be a very happy girl. Forget about the booze, just the guac for me!

Damn, Gaby, that’s a heckuva lot of delicious-looking avocado! Perhaps you should consider renaming your party the Guac-a-thon or Cinco de Guaco or Avo-mania or…you get the idea. The only thing missing for me is some margs or Micheladas to wash it all down.

Holy guacamole. That’s all I can say :)

I know guac is one of your fave foods and you outdid yourself with all the versions!
