Cookbooks galore + a giveaway

Greetings from 10,000 feet up in the air. Okay, so I don’t really know how high up in the sky I am, but I’m heading home to Los Angeles after a great trip to NYC. One of my favorite parts about this trip was getting to meet so many new and fabulous people who have gorgeous cookbooks.

I’m a little bit of a cookbook fanatic. They all live on a special bookcase, dedicated to cookbooks, in my living room. And obviously they are color coordinated. I mean it only makes sense to color coordinate your cookbooks right? I color coordinate my closet, so what’s wrong with doing it all over the house.

This past week I found a bunch of new books that have already been ordered and will hopefully be arriving within the next 24 hours. Gotta love Amazon Prime :)

So here they are! And because I’m so jazzed about these kick ass cookbooks, I’m hosting a giveaway! One lucky What’s Gaby Cooking winner gets to pick whichever book they want and I’ll have it shipped right to you to join your own cookbook collection! Just leave a comment here telling me which book sounds like your new favorite! Contest closes Friday at Midnight PST.

So… here goes… my latest favorite cookbooks…

The Newlywed Cookbook  by Sarah Copeland

Serve Yourself by Joe Yonan

Chewy Gooey Crispy Crunchy Melt-in-Your-Mouth Cookies by Alice Medrich

Ripe: A Fresh, Colorful Approach to Fruits and Vegetables by Cheryl Sternman Rule

Cook This Now: 120 Easy and Delectable Dishes You Can’t Wait to Make by Melissa Clark

Fried Chicken and Champagne by Lisa Dupar

  14. Sure wish I would have been given a newly wed cookbook and even though I’m nowhere near being a newly wed at this point my choice would still be: The Newlywed Cookbook by Sarah Copeland

  15. I would love to have a copy of _Serve Yourself_. I find myself doing a lot less solo cooking than I’d like, so I could really use the inspiration!

The southern girl in me wants to say ‘fried chicken and champagne’ while the baked goods lover in me is drooling over the ‘chewy, gooey, crsipy, and crunchy melt in your mouth cookies’ and at the same time the nutritious me is dying to see what kinds of recipes are filling the pages of ripe. Maybe it’s the colorful cover, or the fresh ideas for eating veggies and fruits…RIPE wins!

PS made the BBQ Chicken quinoa – one batch with chicken and one without – totally yummy either way!
Making your slutty brownies for my not so nutritious minded cousin whom I’m visiting in LA this weekend – mostly because I want an excuse to nibble on one myself:)

  28. I would love the Ripe cookbook. I’m a vegetarian and am always looking for more veggie and fruit recipes. Plus the reviews say the photography alone is worth getting this. Thanks for the chance!

  29. Typical me…I can’t make a decision. It’s a tie between The Newlywed Cookbook & The Glorious Pasta of Italy. The former because I still consider myself a newlywed & the latter because my sister in law is half Italian and I’d like at least ONE italian cookbook!

  30. Ripe! Moving to the Midwest really gives me some great opportunities to go to Farmer’s markets and expand my fresh fruit and veggie experiences. I would LOVE to know how to actually USE all the options I have available.

  31. I couldn’t decide which one I wanted the most….decisions, decisions!! I’d go with The Newlywed Cookbook, Serve Yourself or The Glorious Pasta of Italy. I’m kind of a cookbook collector.

  49. Cook this now. The reason I would like this book is because I an a busy mom working full-time with a husband who can barely make a sandwich for himself, so I need to cook recipes that are simple and quick.

  50. Thank you so much for thinking of your readers while you’re 10,000 feet up! If I won, I would select RIPE because I’ve met Cheryl, I really want a cop, and I haven’t gotten around to buying it yet. :-)

  51. I think Ripe or the Newlywed cookbook would be my favorite. I would normally choose the cookie cookbook, but i’m afraid i already have far too many cookie recipes :D

  52. My initial thought was Ripe, but I love the title Fried Chicken and Champagne. So creative. And a beautiful cover!

  53. I also just returned from New York. The cookbook I bought on this trip was the Sucre book from Laduree. I think I’m in heaven. I’m fascinated by all your books but especially the cookie book. Do you think that means I’ve been dieting too long?

  71. The obvious choice based on the cover and name would have been Fried Chicken and Champagne by Lisa Dupar. Seriously? Talk about a happy meal! I may need to have that combo some weekend. But, alas, after a thorough review the winner is Cook This Now: 120 Easy and Delectable Dishes You Can’t Wait to Make by Melissa Clark. The comment from Sassy Radish really nailed the decision for me – “The book is structured seasonally, month by month, making it really easy for those getting into seasonally inspired cooking…”. It just makes so much sense. Runner-up is Ripe: A Fresh, Colorful Approach to Fruits and Vegetables by Cheryl Sternman Rule. All three of these books are on my Amazon wishlist. Thanks so much for sharing these great finds and for the giveaway. Cheers!

  72. Since I am a Cajun Girl I would love to have Fried Chicken and Champagne although they all sound great. Thank you very much for this opportunity.

  73. I totally am so intrigued by “Serve Yourself”!!! I really love to cook but find myself settling for pre-made or takeout because it’s so difficult to just shop/cook for one.. Unless I’m not buying food! :)

I would love to win and really start to reinvent my life in the kitchen! So exciting!!

    Thank you so much!!

  74. Wow, what a treat! Checked out all the cookbooks and it would be a tough choice for sure! Only one??? Well, I like Fried Chicken and Champagne, Serve Yourself: Nightly Adventures in Cooking for One and The Newlywed Cookbook but I think I like Ripe: A Fresh, Colorful Approach to Fruits and Vegetables cookbook best. Maybe because I have a wonderful garden and love to cook fresh from it as well as beautiful New Hampshire wild blueberries, apple orchards all around me and a very healthy appetite!

  75. They all look amazing! I would choose Ripe or the Pasta or maybe the Ooey Gooey Cookies.

I, too, have my cookbooks color coded.

  76. All great suggestions but Ripe looks wonderful. I’m always looking for new ways to cook veggies and fruit.

  77. I think the Italy cookbook would come in a first with me. So much goody in one book I am sure!!

  81. I love, love, love this round up of books, and am utterly honored that my book is a part of it! Thank you to all of you who wished for The Newlywed Cookbook, and for the beautiful compliments you posted! I hope a copy finds its way into all of your homes! And congrats to Caroline, the winner!

  82. Dear Gaby,
Came across your blog by accident…what a treat. I especially like your 50 things about you! I have been collecting cookbooks for 20 years and there seems no end to my addiction.
For my choice of your cookbook picks I choose the Ripe Cookbook.
I live on the beautiful island of Kauai and my favorite thing to do is cruise the Farmer’s Markets. I shop for the most eye catching local seasonal vegetables and fruits. With excitement and an inner smile, I race home to create a healthy vibrant meal to share with my husband.
I’m looking forwarding to trying your Cowboy Caviar. We have a huge tree in our back yard, with amazing dinosaur size avocados…they are my favorite too.
    Much Aloha
