Balsamic Lemonade + Vodka Cocktail

by Gaby on August 11, 2010

Maybe its because I live in Los Angeles where almost everything is acceptable… but recently, just this summer in fact, with the help of a few of my local friends (you know who you are) I have discovered how wonderful everything can be with a little cocktail every once in a while in the middle of the afternoon on a day off. I always thought it was weird that people who have wine with lunch, or mimosas with brunch… but now I realize just how wonderful a great little concoction can be when shared with a handful of good friends on a random afternoon.

Just this past weekend a friend of mine gave me about 10 pounds of lemons from their tree. I went right home and make Strawberry Basil Lemonade, because really, what else is better than that. But then I still had about 1/2 of the lemons left so I racked my brain and decided to make Balsamic Lemonade cocktails. They rival the strawberry basil lemonade too… they are just that good!

Recently we have had great weather down in sunny So Cal… its been warm and sunny and perfect beach weather. I don’t know about you… but a crisp cool and refreshing cocktail is the perfect way to cool down on a summer day. And this Balsamic Lemonade with a hit of Vodka did just the job!

Avocado Toast

by Gaby on August 9, 2010

There comes a time once a day where normal people have this thing called breakfast. Sometimes it consists of a bowl of cereal. Maybe a piece of fruit. Perhaps some pancakes or waffles. Or maybe even a cup of yogurt and some granola. A glass of Milk or Orange Juice might be there too. You might think that is perfectly normal, but for me it’s not. I’ve never been a big fan of breakfast (unless its a double chocolate chip muffin), and we all know about my insane addition to anything involving avocados, so I have created what I think is the perfect breakfast. Its really quite simple, and easy, and its by far the best way to wake up in my book! It’s Avocado Toast.

Yup. That’s it. Genius. I’m always the weird one who orders lunch when we go out for brunch. I think its because I just crave that savory deliciousness that I think of when I think of lunch. When I think of breakfast I think of sweets (maybe this is because I grew up eating Cocoa Krispies, Double Chocolate Chip Muffins and Honey Nut Cheerios), which don’t get me wrong, I love my sweets. But I prefer to add my sweets throughout the day, with a cookie or brownie every few hours. So that’s why I have implemented this breakfast Avocado Toast into my life.

Risotto is one of those fabulous dishes that you really have to make with love. It’s not the kind of thing you can just throw on the stove and walk away and dinner will be done in 30 minutes. It takes lots of attention, love and cheese. Well, I like to add cheese to just [...]
