Are you ready for part 2 of our California extravaganza road trip? Awesome... let's go to Paso Robles!

Paso Robles, CA: One the Road with What's Gaby Cooking

We left Ojai mid day and headed north along the coast towards Paso Robles. It was basically the most gorgeous drive ever. The mustard was blooming and things were looking great. Paso Robles, CA: One the Road with What's Gaby Cooking Paso Robles, CA: One the Road with What's Gaby Cooking

Before we hit the road, I put in a desperate plea to stop at La Super Rica in Santa Barbara for lunch. It's not my 3rd time there and I basically want to move in next door.

We got a little sampling of a few things including some chile con queso, a few pork tacos and some other delicious items not pictured. I was in heaven. And this is a must go to place on your way to or from Paso Robles.

After getting a little food in our bellies we kept heading north to Paso. I was eager to get there because I was dying to check out our hotel. It was stunning. We shacked up at Hotel Cheval that night and basically made ourselves right at home.

The hotel itself is gorgeous... but wait till I tell you my favorite part...

After sundown you can go sit in their little courtyard and someone will make you a custom s'more. Yes, custom s'mores. It's basically heaven on earth. I opted for a s'more with a vanilla infused marshmallow and some dark chocolate filled with caramel. It took ever fiber in my body to not go back for thirds.

How gorgeous is the property?

My all time favorite restaurant in Paso is Artisan. I would eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I had the time. The food is seriously spectacular and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Plus they just moved into a new space which is totally cute.

Paso is also famous for its wine tasting. We stopped at Laetitia Winery on our way up and did a little sampling. I opted to try basically ever sparkling wine they had and loved them all. I'm a sparkling wine kinda gal through and through, and I hope that will never change. A few of my other favorite wineries include:

Villa Creek

JUSTIN

Tablas Creek

And here are links for where to stay and where to eat.

Hotel Cheval was seriously gorgeous. It's the perfect little retreat right in the center of town. It get's 2 thumbs up from me and an additional 4 thumbs up from Aida and Lillian. Add in those custom s'mores and basically they can do no wrong.

  1. Love Hotel Cheval! Promise me you'll try Summerwood Inn on another trip. It's darling! They'll serve you your made to order gourmet breakfast in your room, on your private patio or on their outdoor garden patio. They have wine and cheese in the evening and naturally homemade chocolate chip cookies, served warm, every night. I also love Artisan but I think my all time favorite restaurant in Paso Robles is Thomas Hill Organics. The restaurant is truly farm to table so the menu changes frequently. I've taken the pickiest of eaters to THO and, not surprising, everyone has thoroughly enjoyed their dining experience. And bonus, their outdoor patio is just gorgeous!

  2. This looks like such a great place to visit/stay/eat. I have added it to my list of things to do! Thanks for the tips.
