Strawberry Ice Cream with Oreo and Chocolate Chunks

For my birthday a few weeks back I got an ice cream maker… and it is beautiful. I have made my own ice cream before in Culinary School and now I get to make it whenever I want at home! For my first attempt by myself I chose to make something simple… Fresh Strawberry Ice Cream with Oreos and Chocolate Chunks.

Strawberry Ice Cream with Oreo and Chocolate Chunks

Ingredients

  • 3 cups fresh strawberries, stemmed and sliced
  • 4 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 2 3/4 cups heavy cream
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 10 oreos, smashed
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl combine the strawberries and lemon juice and 1/2 cup of the sugar. Combine ingredients and let sit for at least 2 hours. Strain the juice and reserve. Puree the rest of the berries and set aside.
  2. In another bowl combine the milk and remaining sugar until fully dissolved. Stir in the heavy cream, strawberry juice, pureed strawberries and vanilla. Turn the ice cream machine on and pour the mixture into the freezer bowl. Mix until thickened, about 25-30 minutes. 5 minutes before it is done add the mashed Oreo cookies and the chocolate chips. Once done you can eat immediately or freeze for a firmed consistency.

  1. Aya Karamaba! The decadence is wonderful…strawberries and chocolate chinks. I'm thinkin' even some cookie dough in there would work!

  2. You should be areested and sent directly to jail for this. You are trying to fatten us up with your gorgeous recipes. This one is spectacular.

  3. i'm sure this would have been nice all on its own, but adding the oreos and chocolate chunks is totally over the top (and I mean that in a good way)

  4. This sounds absolutely amazing. My mother and I made homeade peach icecream the other day. IT was amazing. I have always been a lover of homeade icecream. We had planned on making regular strawberry tonight but I might change her mind with this recipe.

  5. This looks delicious. I got an ice cream maker a few years back and I love it. Looking forward to your gelato recipe.

  6. Wow! I don't visit for a while and you go and change up stuff! Your site looks great (I hope that I didn't already leave a message like this before; I'm so far behind, I don't remember where I left off!)

This ice cream looks soooo delicious! I hope that you'll consider entering our Ice Cream Social event that I'm co-hosting with ScottySnacks and Savorthethyme! We've got some great prizes and some yet to be announced!

  7. We are making this today and can’t wait!! What are the measurements for the Oreos and chocolate?? Seems to have been omitted from the recipe :(
