Do you guys ever watch Biggest Loser? There was a time about 5 years ago when I was OBSESSED. Literally couldn’t miss an episode. I love watching the trainers scream at people and I love seeing everyones progress. I was fascinated curious about the start of each season when everyone would go weigh in, get their body fat tested and do all those crazy tests to see what kind of shape they are in – and I always wanted to do it myself!! And then guess what… 2 weeks ago I did!
I turn 30 in less than 3 month and am making it a personal goal to be in the best shape of my life. That doesn’t really mean anything different here on What’s Gaby Cooking, but I’m just upping my workouts and all that jazz. 2 weeks back I headed a few miles out of Los Angeles to Wellness Center at Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village to do a full body work up.
I signed up for the Shape Up + Slim Down program which consisted of a BOD POD test, a VO2 test and a RMR test. Obsessed would be an understatement. I was hooked up to all sorts of machines and ran on a treadmill for 17 minutes to get some numbers, laid on a table to get my resting metabolic rate, and then places in a big POD (legit looks like an alien pod) to get my body composition. It was incredible interesting and I love having my base numbers to work off of for the next few months. I know my body fat percentage now, what my heart rate should be at for optimum fat burning, how many calories I need in a day… and so much more! You can bet I’m going back right around my birthday to get updates!
Part of the program was getting into the Wellness Kitchen with Paulette Lambert who made the most incredible (and healthy!) dessert I’ve had in a while! Obvi, I’ve recreated it at home since and you can find it right here! She also made REALLY clean and healthy dishes for us like a lightened up Seafood Chowder, Steamed Sea Bass with Asian Veggies and black rice, Shaved Brussels and so much more, all while teaching people the important of eating a clean and light diet. It was the icing on the cake to a perfect weekend.
I am so excited you are making one of my recipes and I would love to see how it turns out. Make sure to share it on instagram and tag me @whatsgabycookin so I can see your masterpiece!
