Magic Bar Brownies
Magic Bar Brownies have been big since before I was born. These decadent treats are two-fold. You first need the best brownie base of all times. And then second you need the coconut, chocolate butterscotch pecan topping of your dreams. This is the only recipe you'll need - you're welcome.

Course: Snack, Dessert
Cuisine: American
Servings: 16 people
- 240 grams dark chocolate (approx 1½ cups regular dark chocolate morsels)
- 240 grams unsalted butter (2 sticks and 1 tablespoon)
- 2½ cups white sugar (approximately 520 grams)
- 6 eggs at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- ⅔ cup all purpose flour (approximately 100 grams)
- pinch of salt
For the Magic Bar Topping
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup butterscotch chips (caramel chips work if you can't find butterscotch)
- 1 cup pecans finely chopped
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
Preheat the oven to 325° F. Line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
Combine the chocolate and the butter over medium low heat until smooth. Add in the sugar and stir to combine. Remove from the heat for 15 minutes to slightly cool. Add the eggs and vanilla and stir to combine. Add in the flour and salt and mix until just incorporated and smooth. Transfer to the baking pan and bake on the middle rack of your oven for 20-25 minutes.
Remove from the oven, the brownies might still jiggle a little and that’s ok and increase the temperature to 350 degrees F.
Sprinkle on the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, pecan pieces, shredded coconut and evenly drizzle on the sweetened condensed milk. Once the oven has reached 350 degrees (don’t do it sooner) place back into the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool completely before serving.
You'll notice that some of the ingredients are listed by weight above - here's the deal... it's just more accurate. The flour is measured by scooping and leveling in my world, so the weighted amounts of flour / sugar are based off that. Trust in the process - these are amazing.
