Why I Love This Recipe

I'll never say no to a perfectly baked brownie. Add to that some extra sweetness in the form of coconut, chocolate chips, butterscotch or caramel chips and some condensed milk... absolutely yes! These Magic Bar Brownies a little reminiscent of a Samoas girl scout cookie and we all know those reign supreme.

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Dark Chocolate Chips
  • Unsalted Butter
  • White Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract
  • All Purpose Flour
  • Salt
  • Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips
  • Butterscotch Chips
  • Pecans chopped
  • Sweetened Shredded Coconut
  • Sweetened Condensed milk

How to Make Magic Bar Brownies

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 325° F. Line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper and spray with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

Step 2: In a medium pot combine the chocolate and the butter over medium low heat until smooth.

Step 3: Add in the sugar and stir to combine. Remove from the heat for 15 minutes to slightly cool.

Step 4: Add the eggs and vanilla and stir to combine.

Step 5: Add in the flour and salt and mix until just incorporated and smooth.

Step 6: Transfer to the baking pan and bake on the middle rack of your oven for 20-25 minutes.

Step 7: Remove from the oven, the brownies might still jiggle a little and that’s ok. Raise oven temp to 350° degrees F. Sprinkle on the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, pecan pieces, shredded coconut and evenly drizzle on the sweetened condensed milk.

Step 8: Once the oven has reached 350 (don’t do it sooner) place back into the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 min. Remove the Magic Bar Brownies the oven and cool completely before serving.

How to Store Magic Bar Brownies

You can store these in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple days. They will last longer if you store them in the fridge.

How to Freeze Magic Bar Brownies

You can freeze Magic Bar Brownies. Just remove them and thaw for a few hours on the counter before serving. They freeze beautifully.

Tips & Tricks

  • If you want these to slice beautifully, you MUST let these cool entirely before slicing. If you're in a hurry, feel free to pop them in the fridge or freezer to make them set even faster before slicing.
  • If you want to take these out of the pan before slicing to make your life even easier, line the baking pan with 2 sheets of parchment paper so you can easily lift these out and slice on a cutting board.

The flour is measured by scooping and leveling in my world, so the weighted amounts of flour / sugar are based off that. Trust in the process - these are amazing. Magic Bar Brownies have been big since before I was born. These decadent treats are two-fold. You first need the best brownie base of all times. And then second you need the coconut, chocolate butterscotch pecan topping of your dreams. This is the only recipe you'll need - you're welcome.

Ingredients
  

  • 240 grams dark chocolate (approx 1½ cups regular dark chocolate morsels)
  • 240 grams unsalted butter (2 sticks and 1 tablespoon)
  • cups white sugar (approximately 520 grams)
  • 6 eggs at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • cup all purpose flour (approximately 100 grams)
  • pinch of salt

For the Magic Bar Topping

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips (caramel chips work if you can't find butterscotch)
  • 1 cup pecans finely chopped
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. My daughter is nursing our grandson with food allergies. She is on soy and dairy free ( ok yo eat eggs) diet. Can the sweetened condensed milk be substituted with something else?
