January 3rd!! Let's kick today off with my Banana Blueberry Smoothies which I make basically every morning for breakfast!
If you’re a longtime reader of What’s Gaby Cooking then you’re well aware that I’m all about balance. One day I’m having birthday cake, and the next I’m powering up with a delicious farmers market salad. It’s all about keeping things fresh, balanced and delicious – and it always starts with breakfast!
Banana Blueberry smoothies appear on the regular in the WGC kitchen. They are loaded with superfoods to get me going in the morning and I find that when I start the day on a healthy note, it keeps me energized and happy all day long without loading on the calories! Plus having a healthy, protein filled, breakfast means it’s okay to break off a piece of dark chocolate mid-day for a little sweet treat – because after all, it’s all about balance!! Also, one should never deny themselves some chocolate ☺
You just need a few simple ingredients for this one – a banana, frozen blueberries (using frozen blueberries allows you to cut out the ice so your smoothie doesn’t get watery), a touch of almond milk, a mixture of my favorite seeds and some almond butter for extra protein! The result is a perfectly gorgeous smoothie that will keep you 100% happy until lunch! It also doubles as an epic dessert, just saying!

I just made this smoothie and I used blueberries that were fresh not frozen. The smoothie is actually like a brown now... Not as pretty. I will have to try it with frozen next time!
ya that tends to happen with fresh blueberries!!
Hi Gaby,
I've had this a bunch, it's amazing. I've taken a break from smoothie because my roommate isn't up in time before I leave for work for me to make them...I'm wondering if in your opinion it would work if I made it the night before and placed it in an air tight container (probably a mason jar) and then had it the next morning? Or would it separate? Any thoughts you have would be awesome, thank you!!
Hey!! I've done that before and I'll be totally honest - it's not as good. It separates a little but that's fixable when you stir it. The reason I don't love it is because it's not ice cold and just tastes a little different 🙂 I wonder what would happen if you froze it the night before and then ate it like ice cream the next morning!
I’ve been making this smoothie minus the almond butter for about a month now and I love it! Here I thought I was doing something “different” haha. Sometimes I add a tbsp of peanut butter to it as well.
Can you use peanut butter if you don’t have almond butter ?
any nut butter would work!
I need more blueberry banana smoothies that is easy 2 make so I can start making smoothies that I can drink
This recipe''s a keeper! I didn't have any almond milk so, I used unsweetened coconut milk instead. Increased the flax and chia seeds to 1 tbsp each. Added a little bit of vanilla, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg to season. So yummy!
so freezing the bloobs are enough
to make it creamy and thick...the banana doesn’t need freezing?
love that color!
thnx!
nope - don't need to freeze the banana! the blueberries are enough 🙂 enjoy!
I would live to get my day started with this delicious smoothie! Love the color and the how easy it is to make!
I absolutely love this smoothie!! I also throw in kale or spinach just for the extra nutrition. You can't taste it, and I feel I'm feeding my fifty something year old body something really good. Thank you for a wonderful smoothie recipe!!
What a gorgeous color! This sounds delicious.
The perfect kick start to the day and the year!!!
Random question, but....where is that straw from? I like using straws for smoothies, but I can’t bring myself to use disposable straws at home.
amazon! http://bit.ly/2ClHDxo
Love love love the color. And all those healthy seeds!
This smoothie sounds PERFECT. Pinning!
Along with the idea of freezing the blueberries so the ice doesn't have to be used, freeze the banana as well. What you get is a creamy, frozen smoothie!
