What is Sangria?
This adult beverage is a popular Spanish drink that typically consists of red wine, fruit, and a sweetener. The exact ingredients can vary depending on the recipe, but common additions include oranges, lemons, limes, apples, berries, and brandy. It is typically served over ice and is a refreshing choice for a summertime beverage.
How to Make Sangria?
There are many different ways to make sangria, so feel free to experiment with your favorite ingredients. However, here is a basic recipe to get you started:
- 1 bottle of red wine
- 1 cup of orange juice
- ½ cup of lemon juice
- ¼ cup of sugar
- ½ cup of brandy
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 1 lime, sliced
- 1 apple, sliced
- 1 cup of berries (optional)
Tips for Making the Perfect Sangria
- Use a fruity red wine such as Merlot or Grenache for best results. Avoid using dry wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Shiraz as they can make the sangria too tart.
- If you want your drink to be sweeter, add more sugar to the recipe. If you prefer it to be less sweet, you can reduce the amount of sugar or omit it altogether.
- Be sure to add plenty of fresh fruit to your sangria for both flavor and decoration. In addition to the fruit listed in the recipe above, other good choices include grapes, peaches, and pears.
