Halloween Chex Mix

It's true. This is dangerous. So dangerous in fact, that I keep trying to pawn it off to unsuspecting friends and neighbors so I don't eat the giant batch myself.

Halloween Chex Mix

In my house we call this "Mix." I'll jump at just about any occasion that calls for Mix. Having a party - let's make mix! Some sort of themed event, let's color coordinate the mix. Christmas Mix - duh. Birthdays - obviously. Fridays - I think so! The list goes on. So when I finally decided early this week to get into the halloween spirit, Halloween Chex Mix was the first thing on my to-do list.

The recipe below makes a massive batch. Enough to fill up at least 2 big zip top bags. Now let me fill you in on a little secret - this mix is served best frozen. So go ahead and throw both of those bags into the freezer and let them chill. Then grab a handful every time you walk by and go to town.

Word to the wise. Do not, under any circumstances, take an entirely full bag out of the freezer and plop down on the couch to watch an episode of Nashville or Scandal and snack on this. One hour later you'll get up and discover that the entire bag has disappeared and you're only left with crumbs. It's truly a sad moment. And it's best to avoid that at all costs.

But then again, if you posses even the slightest bit of self control, you're way better off than me!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Cheerios
  • 3 cups Rice Chex
  • 3 cups Wheat Chex
  • 1 cups Pretzel Sticks
  • 2-3 cups Halloween Colored m&m’s
  • 24 oz White Chocolate plus an extra 4-8 oz if needed

Instructions

  • In a large bowl (or wok, or giant tupperware or punch bowl) combine the Cheerios, Chex, Pretzels and m&m’s. Mix them up a bit, making sure that everything is evenly distributed.
  • Meanwhile, over a double boiler, melt the white chocolate according to the directions on the package.
  • Once the chocolate has melted and is a smooth consistency, drizzle the chocolate over the cereal mix and combine with a wooden spoon. Make sure all the cereal is covered in chocolate. If you need to melt the extra white chocolate to cover all the mix then go right on ahead!
  • Once the entire batch has been combined, lay it out to dry on a large sheet of parchment or wax paper. Let dry for 4 hours so the chocolate is cooled and hard. Break it into pieces and store in zip top bags or package it up into jars to give out as gifts.

Notes

Make this your own by swapping out the Chex cereal flavor or using different colored candies for every holiday.
