Why I Love This Recipe
There's a bagel place down the street from us (Hanks) that is our favorite place to go on the weekends. We're there more often than not and I've slowly worked my way through their entire menu. They have a smoked salmon bagel sandwich that is near and dear to my heart and I cannot get enough. Because of my obsession, I decided to turn my favorite parts of that into a creamy dip served with bagel crisps. Smoked salmon meets cream cheese meets herbs and lemon and you're in business. It's next level perfection. Feel free to up the herbs - I love this with 2 tablespoons of the chives, dill and scallions so it's extra herby and flavorful.
Ingredients & Substitutions
- Cream cheese - I always get the good stuff! Either the plain cream cheese from Tillamook or cream cheese straight from my favorite bagel shop.
- Smoked salmon - look for the thicker cuts if you can find them.
- Red onion - make sure these are really finely diced so they are not too overpowering.
- Dill, Chives and Scallions - the best herbs on a bagel so obviously they are in the dip too.
- Capers - these are optional but add a nice briny bite.
- Lemon - start with just a squeeze of lemon and amp it up as needed! you can always add more but it's harder to take it away.
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- exact amounts are listed below in the recipe card...
How to Make
For the Cream Cheese Salmon Dip
- Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl. Squeeze in a bit of lemon and stir to combine. Let sit for 15 minutes, taste and adjust salt, pepper or lemon before serving with bagel crisps.
For the Bagel Crisps
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
- Slice bagels into thin ⅛ inch slices around the entire bagel, making small chips. Place bagel slices onto a baking sheet
- Drizzle olive oil, salt and everything seasoning over the bagels and toss to coat the chips in the olive oil and seasonings
- Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Allow to cool for a couple minutes on the baking sheet then enjoy with the dip.
Tips & Tricks
This is one of those recipes that can easily be prepped ahead! If you're having people over for brunch, make this the night before and then cover tightly with plastic wrap and store in the fridge. Just be sure to remove it from the fridge and let it come to room temperature for at least 15 minutes (25 preferred) before serving.
As for the bagel chips, these are incredible and come together so quickly. You can mix up the flavors as you wish too. They would be amazing with an Italian seasoning, a quick salt and pepper or even the Lemon Pepper from Dalkin&Co!

Gaby -- could you do this recipe with tuna? If yes, would you use regular tuna or smoked? Thank you so much!
honestly I've never had tuna and cream cheese together so I don't know if it would be quite as delish
Thank you for this, which I'll be making instead of my smoked salmon pinwheels.
