How to Make Christmas Mix
Step 1: In a large bowl combine the Cheerios, Chex, Pretzels.
Step 2: Add In M&Ms. Mix them up a bit, making sure that everything is evenly distributed.
Step 3: Meanwhile, over a double boiler, melt the white chocolate according to the directions on the package. Once the chocolate has melted and is a smooth consistency, drizzle the chocolate over the cereal mix.
Step 4: Combine with a wooden spoon or hands. Make sure all the cereal is covered in chocolate.
Step 5: If you need to melt the extra white chocolate to cover all the mix then go right on ahead! Once the entire batch has been combined, lay it out to dry on a large sheet of parchment or wax paper.
Step 6: Let dry for 1 hour so the chocolate is cooled and hard. Break it up into medium pieces and store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
How to Store Christmas Mix
For one you are eating in the next few days, store it in an airtight container in the fridge or outside if its just a few days.
How to Freeze Christmas Mix
I store it in an air-tight plastic bag in the freezer. I actually like it best right out of the freezer - and this way it lasts forever and doesn't go stale.
Tips & Tricks
Keep in mind that you can make this gluten-free if you want, by avoiding wheat Chex and picking up GF pretzels.

Gaby, I have made this and everyone’s cannot stop eating it!!! I want to make it today but all I have are Cheerios cinnamon oat crunch. Should i use it or make a trip to the store to get plain Cheerios?
I've never done it with COC but sounds yummy
This is my favorite thing to have sitting out when people drop over. I have to restrain myself or I would eat the entire batch!!
Gaby, I just made this and did the slow microwave technique to melt the chocolate, of course it seized up, but fixed it (not ideally) with some boiling water. If you go live On IG you might help us with tricks if the chocolate gets to hot! Thanks and can’t wait to pop it in the freezer once it’s set.
Will do a live this week!!
Hey Gaby, this looks delicious! I'm wondering if this would ship well packed in something airtight. I'm making my sister in law a hot cocoa care pack and want to make the shipping worth it so looking for things to put in with it.
I've shipped it before - I just bubble wrap it so it doesn't fall apart and then I try to overnight or 2-day it so they can stick it in their freezer asap and keep it crispy!
I don’t own a double boiler. Any tips for melting the chocolate another way - I’m horrible at it! Thanks!
I should do an IG Live on this!! Stay tuned this week
Do you have a stainless steel bowl that is a little better than your sauce pan?
I cant stop eating this. Sooooo delicious and so simple to make
Do you add extra m&ms at the end? Your m&ms in the picture look right out of the package. Mine are all covered in white chocolate.
I did for the photo!
Made this for our Christmas Ships party and to give neighbors as gifts. It was a big hit! Thanks for this - pretty, too.
I have been making this for years only slightly different.
Add 2 c dry roasted peanuts and up the pretzel sticks
to 2 c. broken into thirds.
And, yes, everyone in my family calls it Christmas crack!
Only difference is I never have any left to freeze.
I was wondering because I am giving as gifts and it will not be refrigerated. Wanted to make sure that was not necessary even though that is the best way to eat it.
it's fine for 2 days or so without refrigeration!
Very good and easy recipe. Does it have to be refrigerated?
it's best eaten straight outta the freezer!
So so good! Made this without the pretzels because I didn’t have any on hand and it was still amazing. Might be making this all year long!
Tried your Christmas Crack this morning for some little gifts. I forgot to pick up pretzels so I used dry roasted peanuts. Before it got completely set-up I tried it and it was a little too sweet for me. So I fixed that with sprinkling some coarse sea salt over the top. Solved that issue. Very easy to make.
Hi Gaby, i want to mail this with a Christmas present, will it get soggy being in transit too long?
thanks 🙂
nope! just make sure it's TOTALLY dry before you pack it up. In fact, I'd freeze it before you ship it
My granddaughter loves this , when she was pregnet with her twins I made her a double batch
I found Hershey’s white chocolate covered pretzels with crushed peppermint which I’m going to use instead of regular pretzels!! I can’t wait to try it!
