Cheesy Avocado Bacon Poutine + Blendtec Giveaway

You guys. I’ve got a big exciting surprise for ya today! I made you a very special, extra cheesy, tomatillo salsa loaded poutine. I know. It’s decadent. And to make it just a little bit more decadent… I’m giving away a fabulous Blendtec blender! (valued at just over $450) plus a Twister Jar (ARV $119) to one lucky. That’s like basically $600 worth of decadence.

I know poutine is typically made with gravy and all that jazz, but I live in LA and there are still tomatillos at my farmers market! So I wanted to give this comforting dish a new spin. So I went ahead and fried up some french fries and then melted some cheese on top and topped it all off with a tomatillo avocado salsa sprinkled with chopped red onion and bacon.

I don’t know about you, but this just screams football food to me!

Cheesy Avocado Bacon Poutine

So let’s talk about the blender for a hot second.

Have you guys ever used a Blendtec? It’s kinda a dream come true. It’s super powerful and it made this tomatillo avocado salsa in literally 16 seconds flat. I timed it. And I did NO prep work. Like I didn’t chop up any of the veggies really, and just threw everything into the blender and let it go to work. Brilliance. 16 seconds later I was ready to go!

If I had to go do my wedding registry all over again, this would be at the top of my list! I can’t even being to tell you how fast it makes my smoothies in the morning. Can you imagine how quickly it would make a blended margarita come spring time when it’s time to lay out by the pool. It’s going to be a whole new world :)

My awesome folks over at Blendtec have offered to give away one Blendtec Total Classic Wildside Blender (ARV $454.95) plus Twister Jar (ARV $119) to one lucky What’s Gaby Cooking reader. I’m so excited to share this with you guys because it’s literally the best thing ever. I even ordered an extra one for my dad as an early Christmas gift. It’s going to make his life way easier when it’s time to grind the oats to make his Kitchen Sink Cookies!

  1. Right now I hate to make any frozen drinks because they end up chunky and the blender starts to smell, but that is to be expected from the $20 Target blender special that I own. It is capable (usually) of doing very small amounts of soups…like Butternut Squash soup which is my favorite.

  2. I’d love to win the blender to try making avocado smoothies. Currently don’t have a blender, but avocados are my favorite so I’ve been dying to try! Tweeting next!

  3. Margaritas are definitely my favorite blender beverage – and they will be so much easier to make (and more delicious) with a Blendtec!

  4. i mostly make smoothies, but also hummus, salad dressing, drinks. i don’t have a real blender, only a mini one, so this WOULD change my life!

  5. I’d love to be able to make smoother soups! My food processor doesn’t get the job done. I love making smoothies and sauces in blenders as well. YUM!

  6. I love smoothies! I make them everyday (that it’s hot) and my husband and I go on walks together while we drink down our veggies. By the time summer dies down we lose the drive to make smoothies… it just takes so long! We want a blendtec so bad, but they’re just a little pricey for us right now. I would love to be able to make soups, smoothies, purees of all types, and just so many other things so quickly. Great giveaway!

  7. Oh, and can I just say, as a Canadian living in the USofA that this is such a beautiful thing to do to poutine. Seriously, it’s beautiful.

  8. I love to make smoothies and milkshakes, but currently I only have an immersion blender, which doesn’t do a milkshake or smoothie much justice. I would love this fancy pants blender!

  15. I would love a blender that could actually make smoothies. My blender makes chunkies. Nothing like trying to choke down a beverage with lumps. :)

  16. I need one of these so bad!! They look beautiful sitting out and I use an old blender a lot. But, doesn’t do a very good job. I love hummus and to make smoothies. If I had this, I would try green smoothies and dips for Christmas parties!! Thank you!!!!

  17. I use my blender for smoothies, cocktails (frozen margaritas, daquiries) and soup! Would love a Blendtec to get the job done much better and easier!

  19. I love the way fresh salsa tastes, but I hate making it because of all the prep. This sounds like a dream to me!

  20. I will start using mine more now that it’s cooler to make the chili paste for my homemade chili. In the summer I make margaritas!

  21. I love making green/veggie smoothies. My cheap-o blender is not cutting it! I can’t wait to get a decent blender and be able to make smoothies with out a hassle.

  22. Every time I make margs in my blender there are always big chucks of ice!! Not cool when sipping on a marg! The blendtec would never do that to me!

  27. My fave thing to make in my blender is hummus! It’s quick, easy and I always love to experiment throwing in whatever fresh spices/herbs I have laying around in my fridge! Last week I made an avocado/chive hummus to dip tortilla chips in and the flavor was amazing :)

  28. Love making smoothies in the blender, but find it so frustrating with the one I have because I like them thick and it just doesn’t seem to do the job anymore. Would LOVE a new powerful one for sure!

  32. My favorite things to make in a blender? It would be my kids’ favorite smoothie! But I haven’t make it for a while since my old blender broke while I was making it last time. 33. I’ve made hummus in my blender before (becuase I don’t own a food processor) which would’ve worked well IF I had a good blender like this Blendtec one! It was incredibly laborious to say the least, and ended up in chunky hummus with a couple damaged spoons (used to try to move the contents around to be blended). SO if I had a Blendtec I would definitely do a re-do, and make some hummus!

  34. I don’t use my old blender much because it doesn’t work very well. I’d love a blendtec for grinding flours for GF baking!

  35. I really like making smooties in our blender, but I don’t do it all that often because it is such a royal pain to clean… that’s one of the attractive things about the Blendtec… seems so very easy to clean! winterwrens at gmail dot com

  36. Hi there Gaby!! I would love to have a blender to help make smoothies, pesto, salad dressings, homemade GUACAMOLE!! I can think of soo many more things to add to that list and that’s what makes this cool product so exciting. 39. Such a great giveaway! My favorite thing that I wish I could make (I do not own a blender at all) is smoothies. If I won this that would be the first thing I would make!

  40. I would love to have a blender and make fresh homemade salsa for Mexican Fish Tacos. I think I could even find some recipes on your blog Gaby to use it with.

  41. My favorite thing to make in a blender is baby food, just because it’s so easy to clean up after. I killed my last blender, however, doing this very thing.

    • Avocado’s in smoothies are really good… I JUST made one with Kiwi, spinach, frozen peach slices, a banana and half an avocado along with some water. I know that sounds weird… but just try it.

  42. I love to make cauliflower pizza crusts in my blender but my blender is seriously so weak that it clogs up and I have to stop it and use a spatula to mix it up before it’ll continue blending again. I’d die for Blendtec!

  43. I love to make smoothies I’d love to be able to grind my own peanut butter and I’ll bet the Blendtec would be perfect for the job! Thanks for such an awesome give-away!

  44. My favorite thing to make in a blender are fruit smoothies. Unfortunately, my blender has gone to blender heaven and I haven’t been able to make a good smoothie in a while. Hoping to be able to have one soon.

  45. The thing I wish my blender was beefy enough to make is frozen banana smoothies – a tasty memory from my childhood.

  46. I love making the coating for kale chips! I would also use it for smoothies with veggies. As of right now, the kale/spinach/veggies don’t get blended finely enough to be appetizing.

    Thanks for the awesome post!

  47. This would be fabulous for making YOUR Green Juice. Currently, I’m using my very old, very basic blender which takes forever and leaves the juice pretty chunky. Thanks for the chance Gaby!

  50. we use a blender everyday and kill them on a regular basis. we use them for everything from smoothies in the morning to soup for dinner and everything in between. our favorite thing to make is hummus as our kids just eat it up, but it sure is a blender killer.

  51. I love making green machine juices, but hate all the pulp. I used to drain it with a cheesecloth, but now that I’m diabetic, I hear it’s not good to get rid of all that fiber. What’s a girl to do…oh, yeah….win a Blendtec!!!

I enjoy your blog by email. Thanks.

  58. I love to make all sorts of things in my blender. Mostly smoothies and salad dressing. Howeve,r I must say that I Hate making things that are thick because I hate stopping and scraping the sides. I have a fudge I think I’d make daily if it wasn’t such a pain. I’ve been sooo eyeballing the twister jar for thick blends.

  59. My favorite thing to make in a blender is pasta sauce. What can go wrong when you put tomatoes in a blender or basil and pine nuts. I am making myself hungry just thinking about it.

  60. I just joined twitter and tweeted. This blender made me join the twitter craze. It is just that good. I am following both Gaby and Blendtec.

  61. I was already follwing Whats Gaby Cooking Cooking on Facebook and NOW I am also following Blendtec. Thanks for the introduction Gaby!

  64. I love making salsa and guacomole in my food processor/blender. Fresh ingredients that are freshly chopped and blended are the way to go!!

  65. I get pretty frustrated when I use the “ice chop” function on my blender. It really does not do much at all. Using a new Blendtec would result in frozen margaritas ASAP.

    • I love your recipes and they always turn out well. I would really love to have a Blendtech blender!! I keep hearing how great they are and I need one so bad, I’m in the kitchen all the time trying to chop or cook and need something to help me get better results. Thank you for a great blog!

  66. This isn’t going to be a yum-inspiring answer, but I make homemade cat food for a sick kitty in a blender. beef, fishoil, some vitamin paste and greens.

  67. Pesto! Who says you can’t make pesto in a blender? When you don’t have a food processor, you have to make do with what you have!

    • I follow you on Facebook, too. My go to site every morning is your blog to see what new, delicious recipe you have for us now. Love to try them and they taste great! Has gotten my family excited about meal time, I was stuck in a rut fixing the same things every week. Thank you for that!!!

  70. I would love a Blentech blender for my homemade peanut butter and the smoothies for breakfast. Want to try the green ones, but my puny blender won’t mix it up.

  71. I would LOVE to be able to make my kale, banana, and almond butter protein shake in a BlendTec Blender! I can’t seem to get the kale entirely smooth, it maintains an unfortunate leafy texture.

  72. My most favorite thing is SMOOTHIES! I currently use a hand held mixer that doesn’t always “blend” like its supposed to, winning this would make my smoothies so much better!
