Cucumber Salad with Feta

Jump to Recipe

Mama Dalkin’s Cucumber Salad is coming in HOT!! She used to make us her version of this every night with dinner. It is the easiest cucumber salad to make. I’ve since added a few things (mainly heaps and heaps of freshly crumbled feta and herbs)! You need this on the side of all your meals!

A wooden board with a white bowl of cucumber avocado feta salad garnished with sliced shallots, with pita chips and a gold spoon on the side.

Why I Love This Recipe

This Cucumber Salad makes an appearance on our tables at LEAST 4 nights a week - right up there with the LA Chopped. It's a perfect side salad for any Mediterranean dinner or serve it up as a quasi-salsa/topping on top of any kind of steak, chicken or fish. It's bright and light and briny and perfect. I made it on Sunday over a side of salmon... literally the definition of perfection.

Now here's the best part of the recipe - outside of the flavors....all you have to do is chop and toss. That's it! Prep all the veggies, herbs and vinaigrette, it'll take you less than 10 minutes and then toss to combine!

Ingredients & Substitutions

mise-en-place with all the ingredients required to make cucumber feta salad.
  • Persian Cucumbers - I love the Persian variety because they don't require peeling (their skin is more thin than a Hot House cucumber) and we keep them stocked at all times.
  • Shallot
  • Avocado - naturally. If a salad doesn't have avocado, someone check on me. It's mandatory for me!
  • Fresh Dill - add in a handful of fresh basil, mint or chives for extra herby flavor.
  • Feta Cheese - the kind that comes in the brine, crumbled as needed for that salty tangy deliciousness.
  • Olive Oil
  • Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Red Wine Vinegar
  • Freshly Chopped Garlic
  • Kosher Salt and Freshly Cracked Black Pepper

A wooden bowl with cucumber avocado feta salad.

Step 3: Pour the dressing over the vegetables and toss gently to coat.

How to Store Cucumber Feta Salad

I would recommend eating this salad fresh since you do not want the chopped up cucumber and avocado to lose their texture and freshness.

Tips & Tricks

  • If you want to make this into a main course salad, it's great with some chicken, fish or steak!
  • Swap out the peas on this recipe for Salmon and replace with the cucumber salad on top!

What is in a cucumber salad?

Cucumbers, avocado, salt, pepper, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, and a shallot.

What is the best cucumber for salad?

English Cucumbers (also known as European or Seedless Cucumbers):
Thin skin, so no need to peel. Fewer seeds, which means less water and a firmer texture. Sweet, mild flavor. Often a preferred choice for salads.
Persian Cucumbers:
Similar to English cucumbers but smaller and slightly more firm. Thin skin and few seeds. Crisp texture, making them great for salads.

The best salad I’ve had in a long time! Saw it on Instagram. Made it for dinner with friends. We all had seconds on salad and then barely could finish our steaks! Thanks for sharing. It’s “my” new signature salad.

So delish and easy! Always a hit! The vegan feta from Trader Joe’s goes well with this if you are dairy free!

This salad is amazing, and tastes even better the next day. I did not have fresh dill on hand so I used some green onions from the garden. I love how the avocado gives it a creaminess that keeps me coming back for more!
Thanks for sharing all your wonderful recipes, and thanks Mama D!

I’ve made this twice now (as is) - it’s so delicious! I served it with grilled salmon both times. It’s definitely filling and you don’t need much seasoning on your protein because it’s SO flavorful.

I tried this recipe at the weekend, and I LOVE it! I have never tried using Dill in a salad dressing but oh its so good and fresh, brings the dish alive, especially the cucumber.

There were no leftovers, but I have made it twice since then. Thank you for such a wonderful combination.

  10. Hi Gaby,

  11. Looks delicious? How long do you think it would last in the fridge if preparing it for 1-2 people and wanting leftovers?

    1. I just made this for dinner & it's delicious! I don't like shallots, so I left those out. I did throw in a handful of cherry tomatoes to bulk it up a little. This will be a regular for sure! Thanks for sharing!
